Dear Palo Parents/Guardians,
For the past several months, the Palo Community School Board has been faced with the task of determining the future of Palo Community School. Due to trying economic times, Palo Community Schools has found that declining enrollments and reduced revenue from the State of Michigan has put great financial strain on the school’s operating budget.
In March, we sent home a letter informing you that Palo Community School would continue to remain open in the 2013-2014 school year. Unfortunately, that decision was no longer an option. At the May 13, 2013 regular board meeting, the board re-evaluated the future of Palo Community School based on updated student enrollment projections and financial standing.
Palo Community School is dedicated to the academic achievement of all students and at this time the Palo board feels it is in our students’ best interest to close. In the fall of 2013, after 134 years of service, Palo Community School will no longer be accepting students. This decision will be revisited annually for up to 3 years.
Michigan is a Schools of Choice state. The students in the Palo Community School have the option to enroll in any of the surrounding districts and we suggest you visit the districts you are interested in to get information.
